Why the South Florida Cancer Association?

The South Florida Cancer Association was formed because of our own experiences with cancer.

The greatest problem was that of information.  Either the information was too clinical in language to be easily understood or it told you how low your odds of  survivability are.  Something a newly diagnosed cancer patient doesn't need to hear.  We ran into a number of cancer victims with the same problems.  And for those for whom English was not their primary language, the problems were often ten-fold in difficulty.

Cancer victims have a need for information when it comes to undergoing surgery, chemo therapy and radiation.  Not knowing can often complicate recovery and can even be fatal.

South Florida needs an organization devoted to its people.  Cancer victims need to know what they face, understand what they are going through and most importantly, that they are not alone.  That there is someone here to help them cope.

My Story

My name
is Sherry Joseph.  During a recent self-examination, I discovered something that every woman fears to find.  I am a single mom with 2 kids, 1 in high-school and 1 in college and to be honest I was as frightened for them as I was for myself.

A Survivor's Story

My name is Eddie Dutton.  I have within the past few months graduated from the ranks of being a  CANCER FIGHTER to that of being a CANCER SURVIVOR!!!  And while there isn't a moment that goes by that I'm not reminded that I WAS a Fighter it's still a Glorious Feeling to know that I am ALIVE!!!

On our Home Page, you find the Cancer Awareness Ribbon in a place of prominence at the top of the page and as part of the address bar and page title.  We adopted the Cancer Awareness Ribbon as representative of this organization because it has universal recognition the world round.

Our mission includes fostering Cancer Awareness and for this we could have no better symbol than the Awareness Ribbon itself.
